Restaurant Realty Company and Patrick Totah are pleased to announce the successful sale of Steins Beer Garden, a landmark destination in downtown Mountain View known for its modern American take on the traditional German biergarten.
Founded in 2013 by Bay Area native Ted Kim, Steins quickly became a beloved gathering place, offering 31 taps of craft beer, handcrafted cocktails, and made-from-scratch comfort food.
Ted, inspired by his travels through Europe in 2006, created a bustling, communal space with vaulted ceilings, long tables, and TVs for sports - all anchored by a spacious 4,000 square foot outdoor beer garden just off Castro Street.
The 8,000 square foot interior and prime location made it one of the most dynamic, high-revenue restaurant operations on the Peninsula.
Under Ted’s leadership, Steins helped anchor downtown Mountain View’s vibrant dining scene and played a key role in establishing the annual Mountain View Oktoberfest, which grew into one of the city's most celebrated community events. The concept later expanded to Cupertino in 2017.
From the moment the listing went live, the opportunity generated significant interest from the market. The combination of Steins' strong brand recognition, high-revenue performance, and prime downtown Mountain View location made it an exceptionally attractive offering.
Within days, multiple qualified buyers emerged, and the deal quickly escalated into a competitive bidding environment. Ultimately, several offers were submitted—many above the asking price - culminating in a bidding war that highlighted just how rare and desirable a restaurant asset of this caliber is in today’s market.
The buyer, Ricky Singh, is a seasoned multi-unit operator with a strong track record of success in the restaurant industry. Ricky’s portfolio includes nationally recognized brands such as The Counter, along with several others.
Working with Ricky on this transaction was a smooth and enjoyable experience. His experience as a seasoned operator was evident throughout the process - he stayed focused on the big picture, navigated the deal with confidence, and never got caught up in minor distractions. It made for a collaborative and efficient closing.
For the time being, Ricky plans to continue operating Steins in its current form, honoring the legacy and brand that locals have come to love. Within the next year, the space will be reimagined as Barrio Queen, a vibrant concept known for its elevated Mexican cuisine, hand-crafted cocktails, and culturally rich atmosphere. Barrio Queen has made a name for itself with multiple locations across the Southwest, and its planned arrival in the Bay Area marks an exciting new chapter for this iconic location.
Restaurant Realty Company is proud to have represented both the Seller and Buyer in this transaction and wishes both Ted and Ricky great success in their next chapters.
